THE HEALING POWER OF MUSIC -Ntomchukwu Ukachukwu

‘Coming in From the Cold’, is the album title of one of Bob Marley’s legendary musical pieces. Well, this is an album that was very popular in the 1970s and 1980s. I was quite young then, having just began my secondary school education. My mates and I enjoyed Bob Marley a lot. For us he was an accomplished musician. The likes of another popular artistes: U Roy, Osita Osadebe, Oliver de Coque, the Beetles, remain indelible in my mind. You are asking me about Bob Marley’s track called ‘Time”. It has been ringing in my head for some days now. Honestly, I can’t precisely say why. However I am certain that his view on time’s effect on the activities of man will be hard to forget.

The youth today have gone to their own type of music. Many times I try to follow them in the jump but I do warn myself to be extremely, extraordinarily very careful. I can injure myself. The muscles, nerves and bones are not as strong as they used to be, twenty, thirty years ago. I won’t forget my youth very quickly. It was much strength and zest.

Music plays a lot in regard to our health. The famous literary giant, Shakespeare, had said, ‘if music be the food of Soul, then let it play on’. Music is indeed the food of Soul. There is nothing more enticing to Soul than music. If you have watched how you felt either dancing or listening to a good music, then you would agree that indeed, in those moments, you were really sort of lost, completely immersed in the melody. You were ‘eating’ the music at the material time. When you were done you always felt better, stronger.

Playing good music has the capacity to rejuvenate our health. People in the medical profession attest to how effective music has been in resolving intractable health challenges. Playing loving music near a troubled patient or having certain music preferred by a patient, during surgery or treatment of wounds, have given so much help in the healing processes.

I recall some time ago when my maternal grand dad was very sick. He could neither eat nor talk to anyone. When he saw me he was a little relieved. With greetings over and bearing in mind the briefings on the situation, I began singing one of his preferred masquerade songs. People around wondered why I should do such bearing in mind the critical nature of the situation. I courteously ignored them as I rendered the song in the melodious way I could.

A few minutes later, to their amazement, he asked to drink some water. He had used this song to shore himself up when he did serious tasks like plowing his farms, casting fishing nets into the river, attending to patients, arranging the yams on the barn stands, and so on and so forth. I have not forgotten to deploy this remedy when I face situations today. If you love music hold on to it. It is a gift to all life. If you have challenges opening up to good music, well, first thing is to recognize that you need it from now on. Gradually your love for music will grow. Its benefits will be yours.

Later on I shall dwell more on the grander elements of music so we can better use it. Always visit my blog https://toribuzz.blogspot.com to enjoy the many other natural health materials lined out for you. Many thanks for your time.

LIVING IN THE “SEA OF IMAGES” PART II -Ntomchukwu Ukachukwu

Hello, welcome to the second cut of this article. In the first part we looked at the general nature of light and images. See LIVING IN A SEA OF IMAGES 1 . This time around we shall explore: -          -     How Images are Used in Daily Life -           - Manipulation of Images -          -      Learning and Imagery -          -      Communication and Imaging Most obviously, life here on earth is so much based on light and images. You may not agree immediately because you feel it is rather based on objects. I will not disagree with you. Life is generally based on objects that we seem to see. But the truth is that we actually see the images from the objects. No single person living here on earth has ever seen any object directly; all of us have been seeing ONLY the ima...

THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF CERTAIN MUSIC -Ntomchukwu Ukachukwu

‘As a music composer, pianist, since age three and having produced over 1700 jobs with advertising and played or created music in the past 34 years, I can say with certainty that some music are harmful.’ –Jad Mhanna. THE TWO SIDES OF THE COIN: Music has remained a strong element in the harmonization of our environment, making us humans very comfortable and helping us relate with each other in more productive ways. However it has become common knowledge that certain types or forms of music do turn out to be rather upsetting. It is not about listening to loud music, as some people think, or about headphones, because that is just loud music. The issue is the nature and quality of the music; not necessarily being jarred by the horn of a truck. Music according to its style and harmony can affect and alter brain chemistry. Jad goes on to say, “As a life and health coach and psychologist I pretty well understand these issues. So it is the style and mood itself that can harm.” ...
